The
following picture represents graphically the different steps from the business
idea to the solution:
This
picture shows that, for a service provider, deploying a service is only the
final step of a long process, which involves:
- the idea conception, its economical
justification, its viability in the market, its feasibility from a regulatory
viewpoint;
- the analysis of the current asset situation,
the analysis of the availability of reliable technologies to implement the
idea, the feasibility analysis of the introduction of new technologies;
- the service/product definition, the
evaluation of the possible alternative solutions, the architectural definition,
the dimensioning, the cost analysis, the solution optimisation, the definition
of a migration plan;
- the vendor selection, the definition
of detailed specifications, the definition and implementation of solution
trials, the definition of the deployment plan.
The
overall process, including service deployment and activation, are to be managed
through project or multi-project (i.e. program) management, in order to ensure
the coordination and control of resources, costs and deadlines.
